How do I round 3.047 to the nearest hundredth and show the math?

To round a number to the nearest hundredth, we need to check the digit in the thousandth position:
1- If this digit was less than 5 , we round down. This means that the number i the hundredth position is left as it is and all digits after it are converted to zeroes
2- If this digit was equal to or greater than 5 , we round up. This means that we add one to the digit in the hundredth position and then convert all digits after it to zeroes
The given number is:
3.047
The digit in the thousandth position is 7 which is greater than 5.
Therefore, we round up
This means that our number would be:
3.050
The last zero is meaningless and can be discarded leaving us with 3.05 as an answer
Hope this helps :)

I'm guessing you mean 'hundredths', not 'hundreds', else that'll be 0.
First, find the hundredths spot. The hundredths number is 4 .
Look at the next number. If it is more than 4, round it up. If it is less than 5, round it down. **
** 7 is more than 4, so we round up.
The final answer is 3.05.

To round 3.047 to the nearest hundredth, identify the hundredths place (4) and look at the next digit (7). Since 7 is greater than 5, round up the hundredths place digit to 5. The final rounded number is 3.05.
