Calculate the number of moles for the following substances:

1. 2.25 g of Na\(_2\)CO\(_3\)
2. 0.800 g of NaOH
3. 17.75 g of Na\(_2\)SO\(_4\)

Answer (2)

mass of Na2CO3 = 106g/mol
1 mole of Na2CO3 ------------ 106g x moles of Na2CO3 ------------ 2.25g x = 0.0212 moles of Na2CO3

mass of NaOH = 40g/mol

1 mole of NaOH ----------------- 40g
x moles of NaOH -------------------- 0.800g
x = 0.02 moles of NaOH

mass of Na2SO4 = 142g/mol
1 mole of Na2SO4 ---------------- 142g x moles of Na2SO4 ------------------ 17.75g x = 0.125 moles of Na2SO4

The number of moles for the substances calculated are approximately: 0.0212 moles for 2.25 g of Na₂CO₃, 0.0200 moles for 0.800 g of NaOH, and 0.125 moles for 17.75 g of Na₂SO₄. The calculations use the formula for moles based on mass and molar mass. Each molecular weight was calculated based on the atomic weights of the constituent elements.
