Harold Godwinson lost the Battle of Hastings in 1066 due to the exhaustion of his army after a previous battle, tactical mistakes made during combat, the superiority of William's strategy and equipment, and the better coordination of William's forces. This defeat marked a pivotal moment in English history as it ended Anglo-Saxon rule in favor of Norman control. Harold's death at the battle symbolized this significant transition.
