Enlightenment ideas, particularly those promoting natural rights and the social contract, significantly influenced American democracy by providing philosophical foundations for pivotal documents like the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Thinkers like John Locke and Montesquieu inspired the Founding Fathers to advocate for individual rights and a government accountable to its people. The result was a revolutionary change that established a system of government based on liberty, equality, and justice.
