In all the research I was able to cover on this topic the only answer to emerge was Oracle bones. These were normally bones taken from oxen or turtles, and were used for a particular type of divination. Namely, the prediction of future events based upon the answers they could divine from the Gods based upon the actions of the bones.

Shang priests wrote questions for the gods on oracle bones, which were typically made from ox shoulder blades or turtle shells. They performed divination rituals by heating the bones until they cracked, interpreting the cracks as messages from the gods. The results and questions were then inscribed onto the bones, revealing significant cultural and religious insights about Shang society.
