The correct term for the movement of higher-income residents and businesses into poorer inner-city areas is gentrification. This process often leads to economic revitalization but can also result in the displacement of original lower-income residents. Gentrification has implications for community demographics and social dynamics as wealthier individuals replace long-standing residents.
