Why did women's organizations work for the passage of prohibition?

Women's organizations worked for the passage of prohibition because they were morally opposed or practically opposed to the sale of alcohol because of its impact on men in society. With high rates of alcoholism, abuse, and problems associated with alcohol many people supported the prohibition movement and many of these individuals and groups were made up of women.

The women's organizations fought for prohibition as part of their broader social reform agenda during the Progressive era, believing that alcohol was responsible for many societal problems like domestic violence. The campaign against alcohol also provided a platform for challenging gender roles and advocating for women's rights. ;

Women's organizations supported Prohibition mainly due to concerns about the negative impact of alcohol on families and society. Groups like the Women's Christian Temperance Union actively campaigned and influenced lawmakers to ratify the Eighteenth Amendment. Their advocacy not only aimed to curb alcohol consumption but also aligned with their broader efforts for social reform and women's rights.
