Nigeria has been plagued by economic problems and enormous wealth inequality because of the militaries strong arming of politics and also the enormous amount of corruption in the Nigerian Government and Military. Nigeria has had political turmoil, but throughout has been plagued by a weak central state and corrupt officials.

After Nigeria's military coup, ongoing economic problems were mainly due to corruption and political instability. Corruption led to the mismanagement of resources, while political instability hindered effective governance and economic growth. Ultimately, the continued turmoil made it difficult for Nigeria to recover economically.
