Compare and contrast a mountain range and a mountain system.

A mountain range is a geographic area which contains many related mountains. However, a mountain system is a system of mountain ranges, this can include several geological features that are located in the same region. Therefore, one can say that a mountain system is larger and includes many mountain ranges and also can include other geological features besides mountain within a particular geographic region.

A mountain range is a series of connected mountains, while a mountain system includes multiple ranges and other geological features. Mountain ranges focus on specific chains (like the Rockies), whereas mountain systems cover broader areas (like the North American Cordillera). Thus, a mountain system is larger and more complex than a mountain range.
