One of the most important rights the colonists believed they had was the right to representation and a voice in their own government. This was believed because they believed they possessed this as a natural right, but also because they believed that because of their taxation this was a right they deserved in relation with the British Government.
I know that they thought that they should have "No Taxation Without Representation"!!!
Colonists believed they had rights such as the right to representation, natural rights, self-government, and the right to assemble and protest. These beliefs were influenced by Enlightenment ideas and their experiences with British rule. This desire for rights and self-determination ultimately led to the American Revolution.
