The Westerners were unable to travel by land from Europe to Asia in the fourteenth century because the Mongols were strong in Asia at that time and killed anybody that came through the mountains that bordered Europe.

Westerners were unable to travel by land from Europe to Asia in the 14th century due to the decline of the Mongol Empire, which led to unsafe routes and increased conflicts. The emergence of new powers and rising dangers, such as banditry and harsh conditions, made overland travel perilous. Consequently, Europeans sought alternative maritime routes to access Asian markets.
