The major religion is orthodox Christianity. They adopted this religion from the Byzantines and kept it ever since. It is now the major religion for about 80% of Russia and some of Europe.

The major religion of Russia and Eastern Europe is Eastern Orthodox Christianity, with about 80% of the population identifying as Christian. Although many people identify with the faith, only around 15% actively participate in worship, particularly due to the influences of the Soviet era. The church plays a central role in culture and community life, particularly in Russia.
