Where does a government's power come from?

Ultimately I think the government's power comes from the people. This comes from the first principle of government, popular sovereignty. Popular sovereignty means that the people rule "we the people", as it says in the declaration of independence. The people help vote government officials and help influence government decisions.

A government's power comes from the people through the principle of popular sovereignty, meaning that citizens hold ultimate authority. This concept is embedded in democratic governments, where leaders are chosen by the people and are accountable to them. Therefore, the will of the people is essential for a legitimate government.
