It was trying to keep holding power and spread their religion. They wanted everyone to believe what they believed in. They condemned those who didn't believe in their religion. They shaped society - the morals and the facts. They tried to give people an explanation for why things happened, both good and bad. They preached about how there was one god and his son was Jesus.

The Church during the Middle Ages aimed to preserve knowledge, spread Christianity, and establish its authority over Europe. It provided stability and moral guidelines in a chaotic world, affecting the daily lives of people. Its influence was so profound that it became a central institution in medieval society.
