Which is greater, and why: [tex]\frac{2}{3}[/tex], [tex]\frac{5}{6}[/tex], or [tex]\frac{7}{9}[/tex]?

Answer (2)

2/3= 12/18
5/6= 15/18
7/9= 14/18
5/6 is greater than 2/3 and 7/9 because if you find a common denominator (18) and change the fractions to equal the denominator of 18, then you see that 15/18 is greater than 14/18 and 12/18.

Among the fractions 3 2 , 6 5 , and 9 7 , 6 5 is the greatest. This conclusion can be reached by converting the fractions to decimal form or finding a common denominator. Both methods show that 6 5 is larger than the other two fractions.
