What does \( x \) equal if \( 2.3 - 5x = 3x - 5.7 \)?

Please explain how to solve this equation.

Asked by Briann

Answer (3)

2.3 − 5 x = 3 x − 5.7 − 5 x − 3 x = − 5.7 − 2.3 − 8 x = − 8 / : ( − 8 ) x = 1

x=1 on both sides add 5.7 you get 8.0-5x=3x you add 5x to both sides and get 8.0=8x divide both sides by 8 you get 1=x

To solve the equation 2.3 − 5 x = 3 x − 5.7 , we isolate the variable and find that x = 1 . This is done by moving terms containing x to one side and constant terms to the other. Finally, we solve for x and verify by substitution.
