Most important rule of Pre- algebra and algebra, do the opposite operation. So what you do is subtract 3/8 to isolate the variable. 1/2 = 4/8 so just do 4/8-3/8 and get 1/8 so m = 1/8

m + 8 3 = 2 1 / ∗ 8 8 m +  8 1 3 ∗  8 1 =  2 1 1 ∗  8 4 8 m + 3 = 4 8 m = 4 − 3 8 m = 1 / : 8 8 8 ∗ m = 8 1 m = 8 1

To solve m + 8 3 = 2 1 , subtract 8 3 from both sides. This gives you m = 2 1 − 8 3 , which simplifies to m = 8 1 .
