The German Confederation consisted of 39 separate states that shared a common language and culture. Formed in 1815 after the Napoleonic Wars, it aimed to serve as a loose alliance for mutual defense and promote economic cooperation. While it did not achieve immediate unification, it set the stage for future nationalist movements leading to the creation of modern Germany in 1871.
