The dance committee has a budget of $125 to decorate the gym for a spring dance. They have already spent $65. Some members want to buy helium balloons that cost $0.80 each.

Write and solve an inequality to show the number of balloons that the dance committee could buy.

Graph the solution set for the inequality. Describe what the solution means and how the number of balloons affects the amount in the budget.

if they want to spend all of their money they could buy 48 balloons. what I did was 125-65=60. then 60X0.80=48. So the more balloons they get the less money they have and they can buy a lot but then they wouldn't have any money left to buy something else

The dance committee can buy up to 75 helium balloons with their remaining budget of $60. This is calculated by setting up the inequality 0.80 x ≤ 60 and solving for x . Purchasing more balloons means less budget is available for other expenses, leading to potentially fewer decorations overall.
