so you can write 8 m 2 + 20 m = 12/ : 2 as
8 ( m + 3 ) ( m − 2 1 ​ ) = 8 ∗ [ m 2 + 2.5 m − 1.5 ] = 0

To solve 8 m 2 + 20 m = 12 by factoring, we rewrote it as 2 m 2 + 5 m − 3 = 0 and factored it as ( 2 m − 1 ) ( m + 3 ) = 0 . This gives the solutions m = 2 1 ​ and m = − 3 .
