The Montgomery Bus Boycott, initiated by Rosa Parks on December 1, 1955, set off the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s. This boycott was a response to racial segregation laws on public transportation in Montgomery, Alabama, and it successfully led to the end of bus segregation. The event also established Martin Luther King Jr. as a crucial leader in the civil rights struggle, paving the way for future activism.
