One half of the birds at a pet store were yellow. Tara buys one. Then 1/3 of the birds left are yellow. How many yellow birds were there at the store before Tara bought one?

There were originally 3 yellow birds at the pet store before Tara bought one. After Tara's purchase, the remaining yellow birds represented one third of the total birds left. Thus, one can conclude that the number of yellow birds at the store was 3.
