A rectangle has an area of 42 square inches. Which has a greater perimeter: the rectangle with dimensions \(21 \times 2\) or the rectangle with dimensions \(6 \times 7\)?

Asked by missymia

Answer (3)

A= 42in² P = 2l + 2w so (21 x 2) + (2 x 2) 42 + 4 = 46 46 = 21 by 2
Now let's do 6 and 7 (6 x 2) + (7 x 2) 12 + 14 = 26
46 > 26 so 21 by 2 has greater P (perimeter)

21times 2 because it takes more work

The rectangle with dimensions (21 \times 2) has a perimeter of 46 inches, while the rectangle with dimensions (6 \times 7) has a perimeter of 26 inches. Therefore, the rectangle with dimensions (21 \times 2) has the greater perimeter.
