The causes of the Cold War were deep-rooted ideological, economic and political differences between the United States and the Soviet Union before WWII. These differences intensified as a result of mutal suspicions immediately after the war. It was characterised by a nuclear arms race.
The Cold War stemmed from ideological differences, mutual distrust, post-war power struggles, the nuclear arms race, and Soviet expansionism in Eastern Europe. These factors created a tense geopolitical environment where the US and the USSR contested global influence without direct military conflict. The conflict lasted from around 1947 to 1991, shaping world politics for decades.
