Situation 1:
b g = 2 → g = 2 b
Situation 2:
b g + 24 = 5 g + 24 = 5 b
Replacing g in the second equation:
2 b + 24 = 5 b 3 b = 24 b = 8 g = 2 b g = 16
In the Situation 1 there was 16 girls and 8 boys = 24 persons In the Situation 2 there are 40 girs + 8 boys = 48 persons

Initially, there are 8 boys and 16 girls in the class. After 24 more girls join, the total number of students becomes 48. Therefore, now there are 40 girls and 8 boys in the class.
