Naomi has 50 beads in total, consisting of red beads and white beads. The number of red beads is 1 more than 6 times the number of white beads. How many red beads does Naomi have?

Naomi has 43 red beads. 7 white beads times 6 equals 42. 42 plus 1 equals 43. Sometimes you just need to guess and check using common sense. Otherwise an equation would be x+(6x+1)=50, which would be 7x+1+50. Then you simplify to 7x=49 and get x=7. Then multiply by 6 and add 1 to get 43

Naomi has 43 red beads. This is found by establishing a relationship between the red and white beads, then solving the equation that accounts for the total number of beads. Specifically, the relationship gave us the equations needed to find that there are 7 white beads and thus 43 red beads.
