In a suspension bridge, the towers are the components that experience compression as they bear the load of the bridge and the tension from the cables. While cables and ropes are under tension, towers must support the weight, resulting in compressive forces. Anchors hold the tension from the cables, but do not primarily experience compression. ;
In this problem, we calculated that a current of 15.0 A over 30 seconds results in a total charge of 450 C. Using the charge of a single electron (approximately 1.6 x 10^-19 C), we found that about 2.81 x 10^21 electrons flow through the device. This demonstrates the relationship between current, charge, and number of electrons.
