To solve the equations using the trial and error method, we'll test different values to find the correct solution for each variable.
(i) Solve 2 x + 10 = 18 :

Try x = 4 : 2 ( 4 ) + 10 = 8 + 10 = 18 Since the left-hand side equals the right-hand side, x = 4 is the solution.

(ii) Solve 2 y − 1 = 7 :

Try y = 4 : 2 ( 4 ) − 1 = 8 − 1 = 7 Since the left-hand side equals the right-hand side, y = 4 is the solution.

(iii) Solve 3 x + 4 = 28 :

Try x = 8 : 3 ( 8 ) + 4 = 24 + 4 = 28 Since the left-hand side equals the right-hand side, x = 8 is the solution.

(iv) Solve 4 t − 2 = 8 :

Try t = 2.5 : 4 ( 2.5 ) − 2 = 10 − 2 = 8 Since the left-hand side equals the right-hand side, t = 2.5 is the solution.

(v) Solve 3 − 2 y = − 3 :

Try y = 3 : 3 − 2 ( 3 ) = 3 − 6 = − 3 Since the left-hand side equals the right-hand side, y = 3 is the solution.
