Caroline Kennedy/Schlossberg was born on November 27, 1957, and is the only surviving child of President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. She grew up in a family marked by both prominence and tragedy. Her brother, John F. Kennedy Jr., was born in 1960.
In 1963, at the young age of five, Caroline experienced the assassination of her father, a pivotal event in American history. Following this tragic event, she moved with her mother and brother from Washington D.C. to New York City, where she spent the rest of her childhood.
The late 1960s brought further challenges. In 1968, her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy, was assassinated, and later that year, her mother remarried Greek billionaire Aristotle Onassis. In 1969, another uncle, Ted Kennedy, survived a severe car accident.
Caroline pursued higher education at Harvard University, graduating in 1979. Afterward, she began working in the film and TV department of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she met Edwin Schlossberg, whom she married in 1986. The couple has three children and continues to reside in New York City.
Tragedy struck again in May 1999 when her brother, John Jr., and his wife Carolyn died in a plane crash. Despite these personal losses, Caroline has remained active in public life. She collaborated with Barack Obama during the 2008 United States presidential election campaign.
Throughout her life, Caroline has navigated both public and private challenges, upholding her family's legacy in various aspects of cultural and political life.
