There are two main circuits involved in circulating gases and nutrients:

Pulmonary Circulation: This circuit moves blood between the heart and the lungs. Deoxygenated blood is pumped from the heart to the lungs where it releases carbon dioxide and picks up oxygen.

Systemic Circulation: This circuit carries oxygenated blood from the heart to various parts of the body, supplying organs and tissues with oxygen and nutrients before returning deoxygenated blood back to the heart.


The parts of the circulatory system that carry blood and materials throughout the body are:
