Muscle spindles are sensory receptors embedded within the belly of muscles. They are sensitive to changes in muscle length and the rate of that change. When a muscle stretches, muscle spindles get stretched too, which sends signals to the central nervous system about the length of the muscle and helps maintain posture and balance by initiating the stretch reflex.

Which of the following describes the function and location of Golgi tendon organs?
The correct answer is a. Monitor muscle tension, situated in series with muscle fibers .
