Oregon is called the "Beaver State" due to the important role that beavers and the fur trade played in its history. Beaver pelts were highly sought after in the 19th century, leading to exploration and settlement in the region. As a result, the beaver became a symbol of Oregon, representing the tenacity and hardworking spirit of its early settlers.
