The Crimean War (1853-1856) was fought between Russia and an alliance of the Ottoman Empire, France, Britain, and Sardinia, primarily over territorial disputes in the Black Sea region. Results of the war led to significant loss of life and marked a shift in military tactics, introducing modern warfare elements. Ultimately, Russia's defeat reshaped European diplomatic relations and helped maintain the Ottoman Empire's existence for a while longer.
